Be the Change! projects
Kick-off meeting with students in Mürzzuschlag
On November 10th, United Games Austria organized a workshop for a group of 16-year-old students in Mürzzuschlag. Their task is to keep track of six selected African Be the Change! projects which were funded by the town hall of Mürzzuschlag. In a few months, when all the projects are completed the students will organize an exhibition or a presentation to inform Mürzzuschlag's public about the outcomes.
After starting the workshop with a thematic introduction about the Millennium Development Goals, the students got to know the Be the Change! programme in general. They formed groups of three and picked one of the six projects, according to their French or English knowledge and according to their interests. Six members of United Games Austria facilitated the students in their working groups. The students' favourites were the projects "pimp my chicken" and "eatable giant snails" (as they call it...), but also the other groups came up with amazing ideas like dressing up as trees in public to present the Kenyan project "Care for myself, others and nature".
During the next months they will be in contact with the project managers, learning about African towns and villages, practicing their foreign language knowledge, working in teams, finding answers to their questions like "do they have a motorway in Chad?" and "what is the French word for motorway?" We encourage everyone to copy this unique and practical method towards education for sustainable development!
